Ribbed Blouse
Complete Guide to Modern Knitting and Crocheting by Alice Carroll, 1942 edition.

Materials: 7 oz 3-ply fingering wool for size 14; 8 oz for sizes 16 and 18; 1 pair #2 knitting needles; 1 steel crocheting hook #4
Gauge: 9 sts make 1 inch.
Back and front are worked in one piece--there is no seam at shoulders.

Starting at bottom of front, cast on 146 (154, 162) sts.
1st row--K 2, *P 2, K 2. Repeat from * across.
2ns row--P 2, *K 2, P 2. Repeat from * across.
Repeat these two rows for pattern, until piece measures 12" (12 1/2, 12 1/2) inches in all.
Next row--Work across 72 (76, 80) sts. Increase 1 st in next st; then for neck opening, turn and work over this set only of 74 (78, 82) sts for two inches, ending at side edge.

To shape armholes: Bind off at the beginning of next row 11 (12, 14) sts. Work straight on remaining sts for 7 (7 1/2, 7 1/2) inches. Bind off at neck edge 27 (27, 29) sts and finish row. Work one row, ending at neck edge and break off yarn. Attach yarn where sts were divided for neck opening, increase 1 st, and work to correspond with other side, ending at armhole edge.
Next row--Work across sts of one shoulder, cast on for back of neck 44 (44, 48) sts and work across sts of other shoulder. There are on needle 116 (122, 126) sts. Work straight until piece measures, from back of neck 7 (7 1/2, 7 1/2) inches.
Cast on at end of next two rows 11 (12, 14) sts. Work straight on 138 (146, 154) sts until back measures same as front. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Sleeves: Starting at bottom, cast on 102 (106, 110) sts. Work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1 inch. Increase 1 st at both ends of next row and every 4th row thereafter until there are 116 (120, 124) sts. Work straight until piece measures 4 inches in all. To shape top, bind off at beginning of next 2 rows 11 (11, 13) sts. Work straight until piece measure, in all 9 (9 1/2, 9 1/2) inches. Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of each of the next 10 rows, then bind off the remaining. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves.

Edging: With wrong side of garment facing (right side of lapel), attach yarn at bottom of neck opening, and keeping work flat, work single crochet along side and top of left lapel. Continue working single crochet along back of neck (holding back of neck to measure 4 inches). Work single crochet along other lapel, then slip stitch into 1st single crochet made. Second round--*Sc in 3 sc, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook. Repeat from * along side and top of lapel, work sc in each sc across back of neck, then work along second lapel to correspond.
