This is an example of those damned filet designs that consist of a photograph and barely any written instructions, much less a nice chart. Filet designs are usually workable from photos but if you haven't had much experience with increasing/decreasing to shape pieces then the scallops will be a challenge. They also don't give a chart for the monogram in the center, perhaps out of spite. The decorative doo-dads and the edging is nice, though, so maybe go make some doo-dads.
Oh, for some reason Blogger hasn't wanted to post a small picture that you can click on for the full-sized one like it usually does. I've been trying to get this bitch to post for over a week now. Hopefully the filet design is clear enough that it can be worked from the photo or be drawn on a piece of graph paper. If not, I can post a gridded version in a few days.
Scalloped Filet Design
Finished Yokes of Beauty, Book no. 6, by Anna Valerie, 1918(?)
No finished dimensions or hook size given.
Size 36 with 8 scallops. Made in No. 50 thread--requires 3 balls.
Start at upper point of scallop--Ch. 32, 9 meshes, follow design.
Upper Edge--1st Row--3 sl st in straight and 4 in slanting meshes.
2nd Row--4 sl st over same, 1 picot, skip 1 sl st. Work 3 p at upper point of scallop.
Lower Edge--1st Row--like upper.
2nd Row--2 sl st over same, ch 5, skip 4, 2 sl st. Work 5 chs and 1 sl st betw scallops, sk 5 instead of 4.
3rd Row--4 sl st, 1 p, 4 sl st over each loop of 5 chs. 2 sl st in each loop of 5 chains between scallops.
Beading and Upper Edge is worked directly into material--1st Row--1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc.
2nd Row--1 petal st of 2 dc, over first dc below. Ch 5, sk 2 meshes, 1 petal st.
3rd Row--as first.
4th Row--1 sl st in first mesh, ch 3, skip second. 2 dc, ch 4, 2 dc--in third, skip fourth. Ch3, 1 sl st in fifth mesh.
5th Row--1 sl st over 3 chs. 11 dc over the 4 chs, 1 sll st over next 3 chs, ch 4, 1 sl st over 3 chs.
Sew scallop on material as shown, and make buttonhole slits for ribbon.
Ornament on Shoulder Strap--Wind thread over finger 14 times, 65 dc in this ring.
2nd Row--Sl st over each dc.
3rd Row--Ch 8, turn, count 6 sl st, sl st in 7th st, ch 8, sk 6, sl st, turn. 3 sl st, 1 picot, 9 sl st in loop, 5 sl st in next loop, ch 8, turn, fasten over center st of first loop, turn. 3 sl st, 1 p, 4 sl st, 1 p, 4 sl st, 1 p, 3 sl st all in this new loop. 4 sl st, 1 p, 3 sl st in remaining loop.
4th Row--Work tightly over next 15 sl st of center ring, repeat same 3 loops, then ch 15, turn, 1 sl st in upper picot, ch 15, 1 sl st betw, the 2 sets of loop, turn.
5th Row--24 sl st over each 15 chs.
6th Row--Work another set of loops same as first and second. Break thread.
7th Row--Start over center figure at right side, 4 sl st over same, 1 p, sk 1 sl st. Repeat 3 times. Center st is reached now, work 3 p in this center st and repeat other (next) side.
