Free Vintage Pattern #6

The Intervale Jersey
Bear Brand Blue Book of Yarnkraft , 1917
Average size 36-38
10 Balls Bear Brand Vicuna, old rose, No.827
2 Balls gray No. 788
1 Pair Bucilla knitting needles No.8
6 rows = 1 inch.
4 stitches = 1 inch.

Italics are again my rambling remarks I seem to think are helpful.

Body: Cast on 84 stitches for lower edge of back, k 6, p 6; repeat across row and k 19 inches of ribbing. K 4 rows plain (garter stitch), increase 1 st at each end of needle every rib (every garter stitch ridge thingy) 6 times, then cast on 60 sts at each side (216 stitches on needle) and k 6 inches even. Work 98 sts and slip on to a spare needle, bind off 20 sts for back of neck, on the remaining 98 sts k3 ribs even and then increase 1 st at neck every row 6 times. Cast on 10 sts at neck on the next row, k 5 inches even across both fronts, bind off loosely 60 sts for sleeve. Decrease 1 st at underarm in each of the next 6 ribs. Slip the remaining 48 sts on to the spare needle and k second front on the sts reserved on needle at shoulder. K 7 ribs across both fronts, p 6 and k 6 for 19 inches and bind off. When sewing up underarm seam hold in the extra fullness of front just above the jersey portion.
Collar: With two strands of gray pick up the 56 neck sts, working from the inside of jersey; k 18 ribs even and bind off.
Cuff: Working from wrong side of sleeve with gray double yarn, pick up 36 sts across wrist, k 12 ribs, bind off loosely and turn back.

They done kilt a sweater and skint it alive!!!

Ahem.

They've also got this snazzy diagram which almost makes the pattern make more sense, so you can kinda see what goes where, especially if I've made a honkin' big typo. It makes it easy to alter the size as well.

The coat diagrams are especially amusing, what with the pieces all laid out like a coat exploded.

You could probably substitute any old knitting worsted.
